Safina Party

A brief look into the Safina History

SAFINA…SAFI!” “SAFINA…SAFI!”

This is the Safina Party’s rallying call, with the party salute being a straight open hand signifying openness and transparency with its slogan; “All Kenyans deserve a chance.”

The party, founded in 1994, has maintained its beacon of hope for the reform movement in the Republic of Kenya throughout the years. Still holding firmly to its roots and vision of it’s founder, Paul Muite, Safina is an anti-tribalistic, social democratic party and the defender of the human rights of the ordinary mwananchi.

Emulating the Biblical Ark that saved humanity during the times of Noah and the floods, the party symbol is an ark which will carry all Kenyans regardless of tribe, religion, gender, age, race or abilities. The ark symbolises the willingness and capacity to liberate Kenyans from the social economic ills that bedevil our beloved country.

The Safina party was routinely harassed and even its application to become an official political party was not approved until 1997 after a two-year tussle with the KANU regime of the Late former President, Daniel Moi, before the General elections and has participated in all General Elections since.

Some of the notable personalities who have built their political career through Safina over the years include:

  • Party Leader Hon Paul Muite a renown Senior Counsel and former MP for Kikuyu Constituency
  • Hon Kiraitu Murungi the current Governor for Meru County.
  • Hon Richard Leakey (nominated MP).
  • Hon Josephine Sinyo (nominated MP).
  • Hon Farah Maalim former MP for Lagdera Constituency.
  • Hon Peter Munya Former Meru Governor and currently a Cabinet Secretary.
  • Hon Abdikadir Mohamed former MP for Mandera Central Constituency.
  • Hon Kabando wa Kabando former MP for Mukurweini Constituency.
  • Hon Lenny Kivuti Fomer Senator for Embu County.
  • Hon Njoroge Baiya former MP for Githunguri Constituency.
  • Hon Ephraim Maina, current Senator for Nyeri County.

In the 2013 General Elections, party leader, Paul Muite vied for the presidential seat on a Safina ticket to encourage other aspirants to vie for the seat as it is not set aside for any special individual.

I vied for the presidency in 2013 to encourage your children and my children that you don’t have to come from any particular family to contest,” Muite said during the welcoming ceremony for Jimi Wanjigi.

The fruits can be seen as Safina will field candidates in all elective positions under the able leadership of Hon. Jimi Wanjigi, the Party’s presidential flag bearer. In 2022 the Safina Party seeks to bring CHANGE. FAGIA WOTE!
