Safina welcomes ODM Defector Florence Atieno ‘Atis Dollar’ as National WomenCoordinator

Thursday, 25th September 2025, Nairobi: Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi today unveiled Florence Atieno, popularly known as Atis Dollar, as the Party’s new National Women Coordinator. Florence’s move from the Orange Democratic Party to Safina marks a powerful shift, symbolizing the growing momentum of women and leaders who are choosing Safina as the true home for Kenya’s economic liberation.

This announcement comes just a week after Jimi Wanjigi assumed the leadership of the Safina Party, vowing to champion a new path for the country through an economic revolution.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Wanjigi underscored the central role of women in Safina’s vision, ‘We are excited to welcome Florence into Safina. Her work and skills are well recognized, and together we will build a nation that truly addresses the unique needs of women. To the mothers of Nairobi: I greet you with respect. You are the backbone of this city, from the formal sector to the markets, across every tribe and community. Mothers are the true voice of our nation. Real change is needed, and Safina is that change. We have exposed the fraudsters who prey on our children and youth, they must go, along with their corrupt networks. They talk of “empowerment,” yet only enrich themselves. We know the struggles you face. Today, 55% of mothers raise children alone, Safina has concrete plans to support you.’

He further stated, ‘Our agenda is clear, we will not pay odious debts, we will guarantee accessible healthcare, deliver free primary and secondary education, reduce VAT from 16% to a fair 5% sales tax, and end reckless domestic borrowing. This is how we will bring true economic liberation and revolution to our country.’

Florence, a fearless defender of people’s rights who has herself endured unconstitutional detention, now steps into her new role with Safina. Known for her resilience and outspoken advocacy, she joins with a clear mission, to rally women across Kenya into the Safina movement and ensure their rightful place in shaping the nation’s economic future.

In her remarks, Florence noted, ‘We are gathered here from 17 constituencies. Women are the backbone of our families and the strength of our communities. Yet we face rising food prices, lack of jobs, and the daily struggle to provide for our children, all because of mismanagement of our country’s resources. I have joined Safina because it recognizes women’s suffering, youth aspirations, and the urgent need for an economic revolution. As your National Women Coordinator, I call on you to join me in Safina, not just for me, but for yourself, your children, and the future of Kenya.’

Safina Deputy Party Leader Willis Otieno concluded the ceremony by affirming the Party’s role in ending the tyranny Kenyans have endured under the current regime. He reiterated, ‘Florence represents the beginning of the radical change we want for this country, especially in our economy. We will not relent in pushing forward the agenda of economic revolution. Kenya has suffered for far too long, but Safina is here to lead the change.

‘We want every Kenyan to earn a living and live with dignity, steady jobs, care that never fails, and education for every child. Security matters: we’ve been let down by police who intimidate instead of protect. When we take the wheel, local leaders , even the OCPD, will answer to the people, not operate above the law. Order will come from the people down, not imposed from above,’ concluded Hon. Otieno.

Safina Party also reaffirmed its bold F.I.S.T. Agenda, the blueprint for Kenya’s economic revolution. It focuses on Debt Rebellion, Universal Healthcare for all, Free Education through the abolition of school fees in primary and secondary schools, Tax Relief by reducing VAT from 16% to 5%, and a Domestic Borrowing Ban to stop the government from draining local banks and trapping the nation in endless debt.
